Canon EF-S 17-55mm F/2.8 IS USM Camera Lens
One of the great things about the Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM lens is that it is sometimes considered to be an L-Series lens because of its extremely high image quality. Such quality is result of two aspherical glass lens and two Ultra-low dispersion (UD) elements. The only difference though is that its built is similar to that of consumer-type lenses. With its relatively wide focal length range, it makes it by far one of Canon’s best general purpose lenses. This can be used for relatively close-up portraits or for wide scenic landscapes. Moreover, it equates to a 27mm full frame equivalent when taking shots.
Although there are several EF-S lens models that go along with this focal length range (even covered in econo kit lenses), the wide aperture provided by the Canon 17 55mm f 2.8 EF S IS USM allows it to shoot at low light settings. When in low lighting environments there is no need to adjust the ISO as it is fast enough by itself to stop motion. It provides a brighter viewfinder for the user (as more light is accommodated into the camera) and activates a higher autofocus mode for certain focus points among several Canon DSLR bodies.
Combining this wide aperture with the 3-stop IS (image stabilization) feature of the Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM lens makes handheld or monopod shooting easy and hassle-free. The IS feature is able to capture shots with shutter speeds 3 times slower than lenses without IS. This makes for a very clear image with not unwanted noises that can cause the image to skip during startup. Take note though that it does not stop motion nor would it have any use during panning shots.
The Canon EF S 17 55mm f 2.8 IS USM lens has a filter diameter of 77mm. it has a maximum length of 110.6mm and weighs in at 645 grams. There are many different modes for focusing this lens such as: FTM (full time manual), rear focusing, internal focusing and focus types. Unfortunately the materials used in construction are not weather resistant so take extra care when using it. Even when wide open or edge to edge images, this lens almost always provides a sharp and clear image, which makes it great for any occasion.
