Finding The Best Headshot
Whether you are in Manhattan or Los Angeles, finding the best actor headshot photographer is a job in itself.
If you go through some headshots over the internet, you will see thousands of great ones, but it is probably because the best ones were chosen out of hundreds of shots in a photo session. You have to wonder what the actor really looks like. But if you run across a selection of very good shots and they happen to be from the same photographer, you may have found the one for you.
To be on the safe side, interviewing more than one or two photographers will be in your best interest. After all, it is going to cost some money, so you want to make sure that you are going to get a good series of shots out of the session. Patience on the part of the photographer should be on the top of your list of priorities. If he or she is not going to be patient with you, , you will not have a good photo session experience. They should study you, and point out the best possible ways they will photograph you to get you your best roles.
Your photographer will also let you know about his or her procedure in getting just the right shot. It should not be a matter of how many but rather focused on quality. He should tell you to bring different outfits for different looks. Your comp card will hold up to four distinctly different looks for agents, directors, and producers to admire and consider.
He may begin with no makeup, or perhaps a bit of lipstick. Lighting will clear up some facial flaws, and as you get through the shoot, more makeup will be applied, and different outfits will be worn. By the end, you should have a more glamorous look, with more and more makeup added until the ending shots, although you still should not look very made up. For women, they may want to add more for effect.
At the end, you should have a selection that is difficult to choose from, because they are mostly great shots. But do not be discouraged if they are not. There should be enough shots for you to get four or more distinctly different looks for your comp cards, one fabulous one for your 8 x 10s, and one for the internet. If done correctly, you should get some calls when using the best actor headshot photographer.
Before you get your comp card made up, make sure you find a really good pro actors headshot photographerand find some great headshot photos that you want to use to show as an example to your own photographer.
