Make It Up: Top 5 Glamour Images Make-up Secrets
The importance of make-up is often – and quite undeservedly – overlooked by many beauty photographers. A good make-up for your model can add up to the mood of the picture, can make her look even more gorgeous than she normally does, create a powerful emotional impression and so on. There are countless ways to apply make-up and benefit from it, so nothing will limit your creativity. The above written meant to reveal the importance of cosmetics for glamour pictures, and now we’ll move straight on to more practical points.
90% of artists solve the problem of make-up in two different ways:
– they let the model do the job;
– they invite a make-up artist.
There is much to say both for and against each of these methods – the model might not be aware of the nuances of studio make-up which is different from her “everyday” one; a stylist, on the other hand, will charge you quite a bit of money for their services. Whatever the case, chances are that will not be satisfied with the possible outcome.
This leads us to the point that we glamour artists must be aware of some corner-stone basics of studio make-up to ensure our Glamour Images are as good as they can be.
1. Face powder. In glamour photography, there is never enough powder – use as much as you possibly can. It reduces unnecessary greasy gloss and adds an impression of smooth, mat skin. Even if the model refrains from it on her daily routine, she should make an exception for a studio session.
2. Facial cosmetics. To avoid invisible or too pale a make-up, it has to be darker than usual. Studio lights often wash it away, so you should make sure it survives their diminishing effect. Let your model apply it in a subtle manner and avoid tracing distinct lines. In order to achieve a smooth oval face effect, this make-up should be used below the cheekbone and under the chin.
3. Lip-stick. Just like in the previous case, lipstick needs to be one shade darker than usual. However, it isn’t very tasteful to use black colors, so you should refrain from lipstick of those shades. Too light hues often fade out almost completely, so try to stick to the golden middle.
4. Accentuating the eyes with shadow. It’s better to apply light eye shadow – just because there isn’t much glamour in the model with dark circles around her pretty eyes. Whereas a light shadow for the eyes makes them brighter and livelier; hence, it is more “glamour-looking” than dark eye shadow.
5. Heavy but neat. Applying more make-up doesnt mean it should be done in a messy manner your model needs time, so let her have it to produce some good-looking results. To save some more time, the model can work on her looks at home, before she heads for the studio. In case any amendments are needed, she may want to carry her make-up case with her.
If you mind these pieces of advice, both the artist and the model will benefit. Both of you will have great portraits and will look forward to future sessions of Beauty Photography. Try to take pleasure in trifles – even if it results in devoting more time to cosmetics!
