Top Baby Photography Ideas For Every Parent
As a parent, taking photos of your Infants can be the most satisfying photographs to take, on the other hand, they can also be the most frustrating.
Crying, screaming, squirming and eating is what toddlers do extraordinarily well. Posing for your digital camera is the final thing that is on your toddler’s mind. Once you capture that ideal moment frozen on a photo, you will appreciate that all your hard labor was worth it as you will have superb pictures to share once they have all grown up.
Photographing a newborn baby can be tricky. At this age the baby will not be lively, so it’s better to focus on close-up head shots. Try using natural light from a room window to add mood to the portrait. Taking appealing angles will make the photo more attractive.
One of the most critical factors in photographing babies is persistence and the way you use child psychology when relating to your baby. Babies over six months may be shy at first and may take time to warm up. This is where child psychology comes in – you must try to play with your baby, or even become a child yourself while taking the photograph. Have fun together with your baby while you are taking photographs, make funny faces and amusing sounds. Don’t be too solemn.
When they are 7 months, they begin to get a little more difficult to photograph. They will want to move around a lot and staying in the same position to pose for you is impractical. Take candid photos and try to have as many distractions around them as possible so that they don’t get bored. Focusing on their doll for instance is a lot more interesting than looking at your big camera lens.
Babies over a few months of age will be more alert and will have a lot more movement in them. Taking pictures fast is a necessity, and the infant will tire quickly. Ensure that you set your ISO at around 800 and that your camera on continuous mode. This will make certain that you will capture their jerky actions better otherwise you will have a lot of blurred pictures.
An additional notable tool that I have used in photographing little ones is the flash. Ideally an adjustable bounce flash will assist to diffuse the light and not only create a soft “daylight” feel to your photographs, but also help to control the quantity of motion blur that is captured due to your child’s abrupt movements.
Watch out for the fingers – fingers in the mouth can be beautiful but on most occasions they will obscure your baby’s face.
Using these tips have helped me capture many precious moments in my baby’s life and I have many amazing shots to keep for many years to come.
